The best backpacking equipment in the world is made by small independent makers — but they're scattered across forums, word of mouth, and deep Google searches. If you don't already know what to look for, you'll walk into REI and buy something heavier and worse.
We're building the definitive directory of cottage and small-batch backpacking gear manufacturers. Every brand is handpicked — we look for independent makers who use quality materials, build for thru-hikers and serious backpackers, and have a track record in the community.
The directory covers shelters, quilts and sleep systems, packs, hammocks, rain gear, insulation, clothing, and accessories. New brands are added regularly as we find them.
